AFRICAN FASHION WEEK LONDON 2012 KICKS OFF AUGUST 3

The first lady of Ekiti State, Her Excellency Chief Mrs. Erelu Bisi Fayemi

has been appointed as Patron of the African Fashion Week London 2012 (AFWL).

The announcement was made recently ‘in appreciation of her effort in promoting women’s rights in Africa through her non-governmental organisations Akina Mama Wa Afrika (AMWA) and African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF)’

According to the organiser, Ronke Ademiluyi (Founder of AFWL), the event is open to designers of all nationalities, who are inspired by Africa in their designs. Its’ aim is to encourage both national and international designers and models to showcase the  African culture and beauty in their collections.

The two-day event, in its second edition, will hold from Friday, August 3 to Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Old Spitalfields Market, Brushfield St, London, and will feature pieces from African and Africa-inspired designers from all over the world.

We’re told this proudly African event is to enable buyers, visitors, celebrities and foreigners to see Africa with a new perspective and encourage competitors, such as the designers, to showcase their best collections.

Designers Adebayo Jones, Anita Quansah and others will be showcasing their work to over 10,000 visitors in one of the most anticipated fashion events this summer.
